About Desert National Park
Desert National Park, the second largest national park in India, is a sandy wonderland spread across the towns of Jaisalmer and Barmer in Rajasthan. Desert National Park is within the great Thar Desert. Sparse and harsh, yet so stunning, Desert National Park is a good reason to plan a visit to Rajasthan.
Desert National Park covers an area of 3162 sq km. Around 44 percent of the total park area has sand dunes. But don’t, for once, think that there’s nothing to see and experience in this vast fieldOne of the most interesting features of the Desert National Park is the presence of fossils from the Jurassic Period. It must have been a very different world back then. Many researchers seem to have different and sometimes conflicting views on the great desert’s age. But what we know for sure is that the desert is several thousand years old. One wonders how the region must have looked like some thousands of years ago.
